Hey welcome to the show that takes the mystery of the techie stuff for online coaches, I’m Mario Miguel and today we’re going to talk about Wishlist Member.

On today’s Q and A “the Dan Brown” asks:

Q: I’m looking for any suggestions to create membership sites quickly and easily. I have heard Wishlist Member is good but wanted to know if anyone had some additional insight.

I have purchased a course where you log in straight through wordpress. Would this be a good option for me?

It would also help if I could set up a membership site with the use of this software/plugin with little knowledge of programming.

Thank you for your question “the Dan Brown”

Your question is one of the most common questions that I get as a membership and coaching programs consultant, what software to use to protect my content that is non complicated to set up.

Here’s the thing, in business the best software solution is always the one that does exactly what you want it to do not the one that is the most popular.

So here are a few questions that I ask my clients before we start a project that will allow you to determine if wishlist member is indeed the best choice:

1- what kind of membership website do you want to have? Is it just a members area to protect your book from illegal downloads, is is a micro continuity website where you have a front end offer like an ebook and a trial for your coaching program, is it a fixed term membership website, is it an ups type of membership where you deliver a bunch of content on a monthly basis?

2 – do you want your members to stay on your website at the checkout phase or is it ok for them to go to an external checkout processor like PayPal, clickbank, jvzoo, 1shoppingcart?

3-do you want to have your own internal affiliate program? Or do you want to use an external program for that?

4- Do you want to have a forum?

Wishlist Member is one of the most known membership website plugins, it is easy to set up and to use but here’s the thing depending on what you want to do with it, it may or may not be the best solution for you.

I am going to do an in depth review on wishlist member on another video but for now let me tell you what wishlist member can be a good match for:

– publisher model websites, so if you want to create a website where you release content on a frequent basis (weekly, monthly) wishlist is a great option for you.

It is also great for download members areas, where your members will have to log in to be able to download their coaching materials;

– Small micro continuity and UPS membership websites. I say small because of the way wishlist handles content drip feed, let me show you.

In order to group people that have access to a particular set of features of a program, wishlist usues a feature called “levels”. So for example if you want to create a 12 weeks coaching program, where you drip feed the content you need to create 12 levels. Because of this, making a 52 weeks long coaching program is not practical with wishlist, trust me, I have tried it with a client’s website and it is a nightmare.

If this is what you want to do, wishlist is going to be a perfect choice for your next coaching program.

Now tell me, what kind of membership program would you like to set up? tell me on the comments below and I’ll help you find out the best solutions for it.

Hi Mario, I currently use Wish List Member and am looking to build out a dashboard. Do you suggest any good dashboard plug ins? If so do you know of a quality developer to install?  Thanks Robert

Hey Mario, good to see you still doing your thing on here and helping us out. I'm still using profits theme but I'm considering other options because the members area doesn't look very sexy, I'm thinking of doing a 30 day trail of wishlist, but we'll see. Oh, and I got the lights to white screen, they work great!

Hi Nancy, thank you for checking the video out. No problem, but don't forget that it is not only for membership websites, you can use it to protect a book download area for example, for your self help clients 😉
